In a major relief to stakeholders of Indian Premier League (IPL), the Supreme Court has allowed the event to go ahead as per schedule. However, Supreme Court in its interim order has directed for the appointment former Indian opening batsman Sunil Gavaskar as BCCI’s interim working president.
Gavaskar will, thus, be in charge of the upcoming IPL which kicks off in the U.A.E. on 16 April. Incidentally, the next hearing is scheduled to take place on the day the IPL starts.
For non-IPL affairs, one of the BCCI vice presidents will take charge. Gavaskar will only look at IPL-related matters.
“Any BCCI VP can take over after the IPL is over. Gavaskar will not be allowed to do commentary during the IPL but he will be compensated,” the Supreme Court said.
The court also refused to pass any order for allowing N Srinivasan to participate in activities of the ICC.
