Television, monitor and tablet-maker AOC plans to expand operations in India. While the company’s immediate focus will be to push sales for its LED TV sets primarily across tier 2,3,4 towns, the possibility of Indian manufacturing is also being explored.
The company began operations as a TV-maker in 2012, and it incorporated an Indian subsidiary in June 2013. AOC clocked revenues of Rs 160 crore through TV sales last year (2012). Globally, TPV Technology, owner of brand AOC, is one of the largest PC monitor makers and has a turnover of nearly $12 billion (nearly Rs 72,000 crore).
The company, over the last one year had faced logistics issues, with Indian laws allowing it to have not more than three warehouses unless the Taiwan-based TPV Technology set up 100 per cent subsidiary. Currently, AOC India is owned by TPV Technology India Pvt Ltd.
According to Seema Bhatnagar, Director-Marketing, AOC India, the company having sorted out the issue has earmarked around Rs 100 crore for marketing in 2013. The company already has actor Kalki Koechlin as brand ambassador. It is also in the process of finalising its warehousing and distribution network during the year.
According to market sources, sales of traditional colour TV sets are set to go down across the country with LED TVs being the dominant growth category.
The company, Bhatnagar added, has accordingly created a sub-category of 16-inch LED TV targeting the tier 2,3,4 categories. Most branded players have LED TV offerings beginning at 19 inches priced around Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000.
