Pak acts against cable TV operators

Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has taken action against all the cable TV operators in Faisalabad and the nearby areas in Pakistan for showing banned Indian television channels and films despite repeated warnings to stop them.
PEMRA Enforcement team headed by AGM Waqar and Inspector Rao Amir Hafeez seized the equipments of Friends Cable Network at Samandari in Faisalabad which were being used in illegal transmission in violation of PEMRA Laws. Some cable operators who faced action were airing illegal advertisements of fake and spurious drugs, quacks and hazardous ointments which were prohibited by the Pakistan Health Ministry and PEMRA.

PEMRA initiated the action following a large number of public complaints were received against these cable TV operators and content of the channels on PEMRA’s recently-installed toll free Call Centre. According to PEMRA, excessive CD channels on cable networks are not only a peril to social fabric but also a main source of content piracy and plagiarism which PEMRA was addressing seriously.
