Reliance Jio Infocomm (RJIL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Reliance Industries Ltd, has signed a tower sharing agreement with the telecom arm of business conglomerate Videocon Group.
The agreement with Videocon Telecom is aimed at reducing costs and optimising the telecom usage of telecom infrastructure.
Under this deal, Reliance Jio will get access to Videocon Telecom’s tower infrastructure in circles Videocon Telecom has operations in, the company said in a statement.
The companies will also explore the possibilities of 4G network sharing, optical fibre network sharing, Internet broadband services and other mutually conducive opportunities. While Reliance Jio gears up for its 4G launch across the country, Videocon Telecom has also announced the rollout of its 4G LTE FDD services on 1800MHz across its operational six telecom circles.
With this agreement, total available towers for RJIL to roll out its network would reach about 1,92,500. The company already has an agreement with Bharti Airtel, Reliance Communications, Viom Network, American Tower Company to utilise their infrastructure.
RJIL had also signed agreement with Bharti Airtel last month to access its mobile towers. It is expected to launch 4G services in July-September quarter.
RJIL holds pan-India broadband wireless access spectrum that can be used for 4G services. Besides, it won radiowaves in the 1800 Mhz band, widely known as 2G spectrum, which is also being used for 4G services
