The Associated Broadcasting Company Pvt Ltd (ABCL), which runs a clutch of regional news channels, is gearing up to launch a new channel for the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh.
The company has got the approval of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) to change the name of its TV channel licence to TV9 AP from TV9 Kolkata.
The development comes in the wake of the central government bifurcating the state of Andhra Pradesh into Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, with the latter comprising Coastal Andhra and the Rayalaseema regions.
ABCL chief financial officer MKVN Murthy said that the company is ready to launch the channel any day now that the ministry has approved the name change of its licence.
He said the company was firming up the plans for the new channel. “We are still in the planning stage. Let’s see how it goes,” he averred.
ABCL already runs TV9 Telugu which is among the top three channels in the state. Following the launch of TV9 AP, TV9 Telugu will become a Telangana-focused channel though its name will remain the same, added Murthy.
