AAP urges EC to take action against TV channels for airing Modi speech

The Aam Aadmi Party on 12th May has urged the Election Commission to “wake up from its stupor” and take action against alleged violation of the model code of conduct by various news channels.
Flaying the EC for its “ostrich-like approach” in a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner, AAP urged the poll panel to take strong and exemplary action against the erring TV channels immediately and uphold its role of being the “sentinel of the Constitution”.

AAP said it was shocked to see the gross violation of the code by media houses on the last day of polling on May 12, wherein news channels broadcast BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s live speeches. “Headlines Today, IBN, Aajtak, Zee News etc telecast these speeches at 11.30 am. The whole of India is aware that Shri Modi is a contestant in Varanasi and broadcasting his political speeches today amounts to influencing the voters of Varanasi,” the letter adds.
AAP said the model code was applicable to all citizens of India and media houses were no exception.
