UK’s Centroid Motion & PixelKraft inks a deal to launch, Centroid India

UK-headquartered Centroid Motion Capture, a firm that has worked in the upcoming Rajinikanth-starrer Kochadaiiyaan, has tied up with Chennai-based PixelKraft to launch its Indian arm, Centroid India. The motion capture technology firm will hold a 90% stake in the venture while the remaining will be with PixelKraft.
Centroid, which refused to divulge the financial details of the deal, indicated that it would soon be setting up a studio in Chennai. The studio would be as big as AVM Studios or Prasad Studios, company officials said. "In the first year, we (Centroid India) should be producing two films in Tamil which should give us a business in the range of Rs 80-100 crore. Our focus would be more on producing mid-range budget films, in the range of Rs 20-25 crore," said Siddharth S Kumar, director, PixelKraf.

Kochadaiiyaan is the first Indian film that Centroid worked. "The Indian market looks exciting and challenging," said PhilBSE -4.70 % Stilgoe, operations director of Centroid Motion.
"We're looking at an entirely new breed of movies here, with a definite emphasis on the visual spectacle that will bring people back to the movie theatres." Launched in 1996, Centroid located in Pinewood studios, London, provides a wide range of motion capture services for the film, television, advertising and gaming industry.
Centroid has worked in movies like Hugo, 2012, Quantum of Solace, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean, Iron Man 2, Total Recall, Kochadaiiyaan, Prometheus and Prince of Persia to name a few.
