Broadband helps LMO to grow ARPU

Broadband, will increased revenue stream for last mile operators (LMOs) outside the cable TV revenue without necessitating huge investments in infrastructure, said speakers at a panel discussion during an event GroundPost held in Maharashtra.
Unlike the cable TV revenue that they have to share with MSOs and broadcasters, the LMOs do not need to share revenue from broadband service.

Hathway Cable & Datacom operations head for the West Milind Karnik said that digitisation has thrown a great opportunity for the LMOs to provide video streaming service by rendering their optic fibre cable network two-way.
India, he said, is witnessing a digital revolution and providing broadband and cable TV is an essential service. This will also help the LMOs to grow ARPU.
“Digitisation has thrown open a great opportunity for LMOs to provide quality service at reasonable prices. Unlike direct-to-home (DTH) operators, cable TV companies can combine cable TV services with broadband,” Karnik said during a panel discussion on ‘Economics of laying digital infrastructure’.
He also cautioned LMOs against a possible onslaught by telecom players who are looking at broadband as the next big growth opportunity.
