EC bans exit polls from 7 April till 12 May

The Election Commission has prohibited the publication, broadcast and telecast of the results of exit polls between April 7 and May 12 in Tamil Nadu, where the election process will be in vogue during this period.
In a notification, the EC also barred the opinion polls or poll survey during the period of 48 hours fixed for conclusion of poll.
The restriction on exit polls will also be applicable for the assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh assemblies which are being held along with the Lok Sabha election.
Meanwhile, all opinion polls are also banned 48 hours prior to the polling in respective areas.
The poll panel had proposed that there should be a prohibition on publication and broadcast of the results of opinion polls starting from the date of notification of elections till the completion of the last phase of polls to Lok Sabha and state Assemblies.
