TRAI extends date for comments on issues related to media ownership

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has extended the last date of submission of comments by stake holders on its Consultation Paper on “Issues relating to Media Ownership” from 08 March 2013 to 08 April 2013. Counter comments on the same are now required by 15th April 2013.
According to a release the date has been extended on request of the stakeholders. The comments /counter comments may be sent, preferably in electronic form to Mr. Wasi Ahmad, Advisor (B&CS), Telecom Regulatory authority of India, Mahanagar Doorsanchar Bhawan, Jawahar Lal Nehru Marg, New Delhi-110 002, on the e-mail address advbcs@trai.gov.in. Consultation Paper deals with restrictions on cross media ownership, entry of certain entities in media, monopolies in media and vertical integration. The subject has gained importance as many state governments and political parties are trying to setup cable TV networks and TV channels.

This consultation has been initiated on the reference by I&B Ministry. Earlier in 2008 a similar consultation was undertaken by TRAI and recommendations were given in 2009 but Ministry did not take any action on them.
