BSNL tops list of spam sources: Study

State-run BSNL topped the list of spam sources in a study which found that about 50% of all junk mail, while the most crime-ridden network was Spectranet in Nigeria as 62% of addresses controlled by that ISP were found to be sending out spasm with criminal intent. A study conducted by Giovane Cesar Moreira Moura, a researcher in Holland, found that just 20 internet service providers accounted for bulk of spasm. 

The study showed that majority of phishing attacks came from ISPs based in the United States. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. was incorporated on September 15, 2000. It took over the business of providing of telecom services and network management from the erstwhile Central Government Departments of Telecom Services (DTS) and Telecom Operations (DTO). It is one of the largest and leading public sector units providing comprehensive range of telecom services in India, according to its website.
