M&E Sector is set to touch 91,700 cr in 2013: Report

The media and entertainment (M&E) industry is estimated to touch Rs 91,700 crore in 2013, a growth of 11.8 percent over Rs 82000 crore in 2012, according to a FICCI-KPMG report.
According to the report, the television segment would continue to dominate adding new media sectors such as animation were growing at a faster rate. Films and music were also making a comeback, owing to strong content and the benefits of digitisation. The radio segment is expected to grow at a compounded annual growth rate of 16.6 per cent between 2012 and 2017, after the phase-III licensing.

FICCI M&E committee chairman Uday Shankar said, ‘2012 was one of the toughest years in recent times but it has also been a landmark year for the sector with significant progress in all verticals. The signs are already evident that digitalisation will fundamentally change broadcasting, films have scaled up their ambitions, and radio and print continue to defy global trends. This year promises to be even more disruptive." On digitisation of film and TV distribution, the report says the film industry has achieved 77 per cent digitisation of screens and expects to be close to 100 per cent in the next 18-24 months.
