Mamata Banerjee raises her voice against Cable TV digitisation

The West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, who withdrew support from the Congress-led UPA, has raised her voice against cable digitization and installation of set top boxes for any kind of TV viewing. She believes the move will hurt the poor.
She said while addressing a rally in New Delhi, “Our poor people will be ruined. They should have evolved some mechanism for this. What was the need for this decision for making mandatory the use of STBs?"

This was her her first public rally in the national capital over the issue of opposing FDI (foreign direct investment) in retail. She said, “Poor cable operators will be ruined. They will lose business. It will hurt the common man. How he will pay for STBs? Don't they (government) want the poor people to watch cable TV and have some entertainment?"
