Rohit Sardana, the acclaimed Zee News journalist, recently questioned the alleged bias in the way matters related to freedom of expression were tackled. He tweeted on Nov 16, in the context of Sanal Sasidharan's controversial Malayalam film S Durga, and suggested that filmmakers tended to name films after women from the majority community, while refraining from names popular among minority communities.
His comments raised many eyebrows and fury on social media, and lead several fundamentalist groups to threaten him and his family with dire consequences.
The Broadcast Editors' Association (BEA) condemned the threat against TV journalist. BEA president Supriya Prasad said, “BEA condemned such acts of intolerance in the world's largest democracy that is constitutionally bound to protect free speech".
