CQ-The Union Budget 2014-15 offers a mixed bag for the Indian broadcast industry

Budget 2014-15 presented in the Lok Sabha by the Finance Minister Arun Jaitly on 10th July has offered a mix bag for the India Broadcast industry.
While the broadcast industry was expecting some reduction in customs duty on digital headends and set-top boxes (STB) and a lessening of service tax, the BJP-led government’s maiden budget was something of a disappointment for the industry
The Budget has largely left the broadcasting industry untouched. The only saving grace was the doing away of the basic customs duty on LCD and LED TV panels of below 19 inches. Basic customs duty on colour picture tubes for manufacture of CRT TVs has also been waived from earlier 10 per cent.
DTH Operators Association president and Dish TV CEO RC Venkateish commented that there is nothing exciting for the industry in the budget. However since there was not much time for the government to react to our demands, it is hoped that if the Minister will look into the problems soon and find a solution.
MSOs are disappointed as nothing about exemption of custom duties has been announced.
