NetRange signs up 2,000 TV channels

NetRange, a German provider of connected TV solutions, will take around 2,000 TV channels onto its media portal for TV sets hooked up to the Internet.
The owners of connected TV sets from manufacturers such as Sharp, Loewe and TLC, will be able to receive the channels as OTT live streams through the Internet on their TV screens.

The contracts with the broadcasters have now been signed, NetRange has announced. The line-up includes BBC News from the UK, RAI Uno from Italy and Antena 3 from Spain, as well as several sports channels.
The channels available will differ from country to country. The broadcasters don’t have to pay distribution fees to NetRange, managing director Jan Wendt told German business newspaper Handelsblatt. Consumers only pay for premium content. By 2016, NetRange wants to offer 10,000 channels.
NetRange’s media portal is now installed on six to seven million devices worldwide, according to Wendt.
The reach is expected to grow to at least 30 million TV sets in the next five years based on contracts already signed with TV set manufacturers.
