Reliance Broadcast ends joint venture with CBS Studios

Reliance Broadcast Network (RBNL) has dissolved its joint venture with the Los Angeles-based CBS Studios International after shutting down Big CBS Prime, Big CBS Love and Big CBS Spark -- three channels the company had launched in India between 2010 and 2011.
The three channels went off air between June and November 2013, but all ten persons employed with the channels have been retained, said company sources, who did not want to be named. RBNL also operates Big Magic, a Hindi entertainment channel that went national two months ago, and Big Thrill, a Hindi action channel. RBNL executives denied any move to shut these channels as well.

Company sources said, “Reliance Broadcast reorganises and recasts strategy for its broadcast portfolio, with increased focus on local and original content, along with IPs. The priority being flagship brands Big FM, Hindi GEC Big Magic and regional foray with Big Magic Bihar and Jharkhand in the high potential media dark states, which offer greater scale and profitability.”
