Phases III and IV of digitisation not on hold: I&B minister

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) is studying the impact of the Phases I and II of digital addressable system (DAS) before aggressively rolling out the third and fourth phases.
“The MIB is committed to the course of digitisation. We are evaluating results of the Phases I and II of digitisation, but we have not put the Phases III and IV on hold,” I&B minister Manish Tewari said at BES Expo 2014.

The minister said that the government would implement its learning from the first and second phases of digitisation to ensure a smooth execution of the last two phases. “We are going ahead with the preparations but only wanted to do Phases III and IV better than what we did in Phases I and II drawing from the lessons we had from these phases,” he added.
He also acknowledged that DAS did unsettle some of the stakeholders, particularly the local cable operators. “Despite all the naysayers, we went through Phases I and II of digitisation. Of course, it did create a little bit of turbulence and tumult, some of the stakeholders had become unsettled,” Tewari conceded.
