With consumer billing stuck in Mumbai due to resistance by the last mile operators (LMOs) and confusion over entertainment tax, the four national multi-system operators (MSOs) have called for a meeting in Mumbai on 3 January to find a way out of the current imbroglio centring consumer billing.
The meeting is expected to be attended by representatives from Hathway Cable and Datacom, DEN Networks, IndusInd Media and Communications Ltd (IMCL) and Siti Cable.
Representatives of all national MSOs will meet to discuss the way forward on subscriber billing.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had directed the MSOs to start consumer billing beginning with the month of November. The authority had set 29 December as the deadline to send compliance report on the matter.
The MSOs said they have already generated the bill for November and have passed it on to the LMOs who have to give it to the customers. Considering the LMOs’ tough stance on the issue, particularly in Mumbai, it is unlikely that the MSOs will be able to start billing.
Desperate to start consumer billing, Hathway Cable and Datacom seems to have agreed to the LMOs’ demand of billing the customer directly.
