The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is getting serious about the implementation of digital addressable system (DAS) in Chennai. Meeting with local multi-system operators (MSOs) and broadcasters on 9 December 2013 the broadcast sector regulator asked them to comply with the DAS guidelines.
An advertisement in local newspapers would be released on 10 December stating that DAS is compulsory and analogue signals should be blacked out.
In the meeting, the MSOs were asked whether they were continuing with analogue transmission. None of the MSOs admitted they were beaming analogue signals and passed the buck to state-owned Arasu Cable TV Corporation.
Incidentally, no representative of Arasu Cable attended the meeting.
“All the parties are responsible for the implementation of DAS. Analogue signals should be stopped and DAS guidelines should be complied with. Rigorous action will be taken against those who are violating the norms,” a TRAI executive said in the meeting.
