Broadcasters, who were summoned for interim bail by Tis Hazari court on December 16, 2013, have got exemption till January 25, 2014. This decision comes after News Broadcasters Association (NBA) Music broadcasters, Reliance Broadcast Network (RBNL), E24 and Sun TV Network have moved their writ petitions in the Delhi High Court on December 16 to get the 10+2 ad cap case reviewed at the earliest. The hearing date of ad cap case is December 17.
In August this year, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had filed a criminal case against the broadcasters for not following the advertising limits notified by it in May 2013.
TRAI had lodged cases against more than 14 television channels with the Patiala House court in Delhi on August 16, 2013. These channels include Zoom, NDTV Lifestyle, Maa TV, and IBN Lokmat, among others.
TRAI in its complaint had said that the broadcasters have been violating its regulations, which limit the time of advertisements in one clock hour to 12 minutes.
The Supreme Court in its ruling on December 6, 2013 said that the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) has no jurisdiction over TRAI’s regulations, following which, TDSAT directed NBA to move the High Court if they wanted.
