South Korea’s two electronics giants, Samsung and LG, are busy trading accusations of industrial espionage over OLED patents and secrets. South Korean police are formally investigating allegations of theft by Samsung employees of certain LG OLED technologies.
On April 9th the police raided four Samsung factories in a search for evidence over LG’s theft allegations.
Samsung immediately called the claims groundless, and adding that it already dominated the global demand for OLED displays. Samsung Display CEO Kim Ki-nam firmly denied the allegations. “You should remember that Samsung Display is the only firm that manufactures and sells OLED panels. We have no reason to steal other companies’ technologies. Samsung is always worrying about the possible leakage of our patented technologies,” he told reporters in Seoul.
