Cable operators are in for more trouble, this time from its subscribers who are not ready for installation of set-top-boxes (STBs). The relief granted to cable operators by Madhya Pradesh high court for transmission of TV channels without STB until May 9 has failed to speed up set-top-box installation. Most subscribers are opposing STBs, fearing hike in monthly subscriptions and poor TV viewing experiencing.
There are nearly 4 lakh cable TV subscribers in Indore alone and only 2 lakh of them have been provided with STBs so far, as part of the ongoing digitisation process. Similarly, in Bhopal and Jabalpur too, large number of subscribers are yet to accept STBs.
Sunil Sonu, Secretary, Cable TV Operators Association (Bhopal), said, ""The process of installation of STBs in Bhopal was yet to gather momentum."Convenor, Cable TV Operators' Association (Jabalpur), VK Chose, said, "Consumers are not in a mood to install STBs with their TV sets and hence the speed of digitisation has slowed down here."Meanwhile, a group of cable TV operators in the city called on ADM, Alok Singh and lodged a complaint against the cable-cutting being done by their rivals in an illegal manner.
