I&B Ministry bans TV channel from airing Delhi Horror show

Television and film fraternity have expressed unhappiness over government's decision to put a ban on airing a show based on brutal gangrape-cum-murder of a paramedical student in the national capital on 16 December 2012.

The Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry on 11 January 2013 asked a private TV channel Sony Entertainment Television not to air a "crime programme that would have reconstructed the Dec 16 Delhi gangrape incident, in its popular cime show 'Crime Patrol - Dastak', keeping in view the ground reality."

I&B minister Manish Tewari said, "The show had been flagged for the consideration of the appropriate authority within the ministry since the trial court had ordered an in-camera trial of it, perhaps, would be advisable for everybody to be cognizant of the ground realities and the attendant sensibilities.''

The show Crime Patrol hosted by actor Anup Soni was scheduled to be aired on Friday, 11 January 2013 evening. Now, the show was postponed by Sony TV citing "unavoidable reasons".

All the previous episodes of Crime Patrol were based on real-life crime stories. Official sources said that promotional videos that were running for the last 10 days were brought to the attention of the ministry.

The brutal gangrape of the 23-year-old who died in a Singapore Hospital on Dec 29 has caused national outrage. The entire nation came out on the streets to demand safety for women in India. Most of the people have supported capital punishment to be awarded to rapists.
