Doordarshan is all set to launch a weekly based news programme in Sanskrit at 12 noon on June 28th (Sunday), coinciding with the World Sanskrit Conference to be held in Bangkok, twitted Prasar Bharti Chairman A Surya Prakash .
The 16th World Sanskrit Conference is being organised in Bangkok from June 28th to July 2nd, and Union Ministers, Sushma Swaraj and Smriti Irani are expected to attend the event.
According to the officials, there has been a continuous demand from a section of viewers for a news programme in Sanskrit and Doordarshan being the public broadcaster, wants to cater to this demand and will be launching the programme in order to attract a niche audience. However, the channel already airs a five minute Sanskrit news bulletin -- ‘Varta’ at 6.55 pm every day.
According to a source, the programme has news, reportage, features and discussions in Sanskrit and on basis of the response from the show, the public broadcaster would consider its future plan of action.
