On 30 March, Jassi, a small cable operator of Punjab gave up his fight against the system implementing mandatory digitisation in the country, forcing all LCOs to work as slaves of large companies.
Jassi committed suicide, consuming poison infront of a Judge's Panel in the TDSAT Seminar held at Amritsar on 28 March, explaining to the judges, the plight of thousands of cable operators who are being armtwisted and exploited by the Fastway MSO, which is politically linked with the ruling Akali Dal Party and has a total monopoly in the state. '
Sangharsh Committee' of Punjab, an association of LCOs fighting for their fundamental rights and against the exploitation of Fastway MSO who, with the help of its political links and nexus with large 'Pay TV' Broadcasters like Star TV, is trying to get rid of LCOs and controlling millions of consumers all by itself. Jassi was an active member of the Sangharsh Committee who was uniting all complaint against Fastway Cable Exploitation of Cable Operators creating Monopoly in Punjab. Cable Operators of the country sending every day his video message surging them to rise against such exploitation of MSOs and Pay TV broadcasters in the name of regulations for mandatory digitisation.
Jassi died in the hospital at Amritsar.
