Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has been awarded the Gandhi Peace Prize for the year 2014. The Gandhi Peace Prize for social, economic and political transformation through non-violence was instituted in the year 1995. The Award comprises an amount of Rupees one crore, a plaque and a citation.
The Jury consisting of Prime Minsiter of India, Narendra Modi, Justice H.L Dattu, Chief Justice of India, Shri Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Shri. L.K. Advani, Member of Parliament (L.S) and Shri Gopalkrishna Gandhi.
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has been engaged in making space technology a catalyst of development, to bring societal transformation. Its mission is to provide the nation with space based services and to develop the technologies to achieve the same.
ISRO contributes satellite base education, health care services and provides connectivity among the community. Its space technology service has benefited fishing communities and farmers as it provides information and knowledge about climate and disaster management. Its technologies Tele-medicine and Tele-education have given benefit to rural hospitals and teachers to teach rural students. With all these services, ISRO has become one of the six largest space agencies in the world.
