Revenue drop, radio losses dent BAG’s Q2 performance

BAG Films & Media Limited (Bag Films) reported consolidated income from operations of Rs. 32.64 crore ( Rs. 326.47 mn), down 9.6% in the quarter to September 2013 compared to Rs. 36.13 crore ( Rs. 361.33 mn) in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. 
Poor performance from radio, leasing operations and drop in revenue from the television broadcasting business exerted pressure on the company’s performance.

Total expenditure in the fiscal second-quarter stood at Rs. 33.99 crore ( Rs. 339.91 mn), up 1% as compared to Rs. 33.64 crore ( Rs. 336.42 mn) in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. 
The company entered into the red by reporting net loss of Rs. 4.34 crore ( Rs. 43.48 mn) in the quarter under review as compared to net profit of Rs. 5.61 crore ( Rs. 56.18 mn) a year ago. 
Television broadcasting operations generated revenues of Rs. 18.69 crore ( Rs. 186.97 mn) during the quarter under review as against Rs. 25.13 crore ( Rs. 251.31 mn) in the earlier year. 
The segment contributed Rs. 7.02 crore ( Rs. 70.20 mn) to profit from Rs. 8.78 crore ( Rs. 87.80 mn) a year ago. 
BAG Films operates television channels under the brand name News 24 and E24. 
BAG Films FM radio segment operates under the brand name ‘Radio Dhamaal’. The company provides radio services in seven states and 10 cities of India.
