Doordarshan asked cable operators in Jammu and Kashmir to air its channels on prime and non-prime bands so that the viewers get good quality transmission of its services.
Programme Executive of DD Jammu S L Kaul said that the cable operators are bound by law of the land for carriage of nine Doordarshan channels -- five in prime band and four in non-prime band.
In a meeting, headed by Deputy Director General (DDG), DD Jammu, Shabir Mujahid said Doordarshan, a public service broadcaster, is always committed to fulfill the aspiration of lakhs of viewers living across the Jammu region besides, showcasing rich cultural milieu of the region.
He said the Doordarshan Kendra was accountable for good quality transmission, but unfortunately cable operators in the Jammu region do not carry recommended channels on the prescribed bands.
In order to implement the Cable Act of India properly in the state, DD Kendra needs help from members of the civil society. It is alleged that the cable operators do not transmit any channel on the cable service in the same frequency band which Doordarshan terrestrial channels are transmitted.
