Music broadcaster finished their arguments in ad cap case

In the ongoing ad cap regulation case at the Telecom Disputes Redressal and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT), the music broadcasters’ counsel finished arguments for the petitioners.
At the sixth day of hearing, senior advocate Ramjii Srinivasan continued arguments in front of TDSAT bench comprising chairman Aftab Alam and member Kuldip Singh.

Srinivasan argued that TRAI is trying to amend the terms in rule 6 and 7 of the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995, which are incorporated in the licence term of the broadcasters.
The rule 6 of CATV Act says that “No person shall transmit or re-transmit through a cable service any advertisement unless such advertisement is in conformity with the prescribed advertisement code”.
Rule 7 of the Advertising Code, on the other hand, said that advertising carried in the cable service shall be so designed as to conform to the laws of the country and should not offend morality, decency and religious susceptibilities of the subscribers.
TRAI counsels are expected to present the case on 20 November.
