PCMC removes overhead cables of TV, Internet

Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) in the past one week has removed cable TV and Internet wires to the length of around 420 km that were hanging over street poles, roads and other municipal properties. Under the special drive, the authorities seized wires to the length of 250 km and cable owners voluntarily removed around 150-km wires.
Civic officials have appealed to the cable owners to prepare a specific plan to install underground cables or wires in PCMC jurisdiction in the next three months and submit it to the city engineer office or zonal ward offices at the earliest. The drive was carried out after informing those who were responsible for hanging these wires and cables.

The action was carried out after one of the hanging wires resulted in a minor explosion near Dange Chowk in Thergaon that injured a five-year-old boy on August 17. The accident had occurred when a hanging Internet cable came in contact with an overhead high tension (HT) wire. The civic administration had then directed the owners of these cables to remove it from all municipal properties.
