The Information and Broadcasting ministry Gazette has issued a notification as per which cable operators must show 24 channels to all their subscribers in cities where digitisation has been implemented.
According to the notification cable networks has increased. Keeping this in mind, the ministry had issued a notification as per which cable operators have been asked to show 21 DD channels, Lok Sabha TV, Rajya Sabha TV and Gyan Darshanchannel on all networks in the area where DAS has been implemented. This includes four metros and 38 cities of phase 2.
Earlier, cable operators across the country were supposed to show eight mandatory channels.
The I&B ministry intends to make the entire cable sector in the country digital by the end of 2014. This has been done as there is sufficient capacity to carry TV channels on a digital network.
In its latest notification, the ministry has said that the mandatory 24 channels will have to be placed alongside other private channels of the same genre and directed cable operators to show each mandatory channel in full screen. Implementation will be done by all MSOs registered in DAS areas.
Among the channels which cable operators must show are DD National, DD News, DD Bharati, DD Urdu, DD Sports, DD India, DD Kashir, DD Punjabi, DD Girnar, DD Sahyadri, DD Saptagiri, DD Malayalam, DD Podhigai, DD Chandana, DD Bangla, DD North East, DD Bihar, DD Uttar Pradesh, DD Rajasthan, DD Madhya Pradesh, DD Oriya, Gyan Darshan, Lok Sabha TV and Rajya Sabha TV.
The I&B ministry has also notified a list of nine TV channels which must be showed in areas where digitisation has not been implemented yet. These channels are DD1, DD News, Lok Shabha TV, Rajya Shabha TV, and DD regional language (any one of the 16 regional language channels) to be shown on Prime band and DD sports, Gyan Darshan, DD Urdu, DD Bharti on any band. Any state where no regional language channel exists DD Bharti will be transmitted on Prime band.
