Envivio a leading provider of software-based video processing and delivery solutions. announced that ZON Multimedia, Portugal’s leading pay TV operator and content provider, has selected Envivio software-based headend solutions to power a set of DVB-S and DVB-C transport streams to provide pay TV services, as well as mobile TV services delivered to any screen. ZON serves more than 1.5 million subscribers in Portugal, and recently announced a merger with Optimus Portugal, another Envivio customer.
The Envivio solutions were provided through its official Portuguese representative, Satcab, a leading system operator and distributor of professional broadband and broadcast equipment in Portugal that has been supplying products and solutions to all the major local TV operators and content providers for the last 16 years.
Envivio Muse™ encoders on the Envivio 4Caster™G4 Intel-based appliance, with Envivio Spark™ receivers and multiplexers, deliver high quality video in variable bitrate (VBR) format for cable and satellite broadcast TV channels. Simultaneously, the Muse encoders are producing constant bitrate (CBR) video for non-linear TV service delivery, as well as adaptive bit-rate (ABR) services for multi-screen. The headend infrastructure is managed and controlled using Envivio’s network management system.
“We were interested in replacing part of our previous systems with an end-to-end solution that supports both the TV service and streaming to Internet-connected devices, and Envivio provides the best solution to meet those needs,” said José Pascoal, planning and engineering director at ZON Multimedia. “The Envivio Muse encoders offer excellent video quality for statistical multiplexing of our DVB-S and DVB-C broadcast channels, while also simultaneously creating outputs for the various mobile resolutions we require.”
Julien Signès, Envivio’s president and CEO, said, “Operators using our converged solutions realize significant reductions in costs and gains in flexibility. Not only can they deliver their current TV and multi-screen services with the very best video quality using our Muse encoders—they can upgrade and enhance their services as needed with our versatile software-based architecture.”
Envivio Muse software supports live or on-demand video encoding and transcoding, providing best-in-class video quality for all codecs on all screens—HEVC (H.265), AVC (H.264) and MPEG-2—thanks to Envivio’s proprietary video algorithms. Envivio’s robust software-based architecture runs on Intel-based server appliances or blade servers fr0m HP, Cisco or IBM in a datacenter/cloud environment.
