Google Music closes its music service in India

Internet giant Google Inc. has closed its music service in India which allowed the users to play music online via partners. Three years back, this service was started to provide a faster more convenient way to search and purchase music. As per report, this move was due to lack of legal download options available in the country.

 According to reports, “Online entertainment will remain an important area for Google and its mission.”

In 2010, Google launched the service in a move that was aimed at fight digital piracy. It had partnered with local music company, Saregama India, in.com and Saavn LLC for the service and cataloguing songs.

In May, this year digital music store Flyte had also shut down. There is immense competition from streaming services like Dhingana, Saavn and Gaana who continue to grow both on the Web and mobile apps.

Last October, Google shut down Google Music in China. Google started shutting down not popular services from September 2011. As per reports, it has shut down about more than 60 products so far. Services like Google Pack, Fast Flip, Aardvark, Google news badges, Google Reader, Google Voice app for BlackBerry, Google Cloud Connect Snapseed Desktop for Macintosh and Windows and Google Building Maker.
