After Karnataka and Gujarat now it’s the turn of Hyderabad and Vishakhapatnam that has managed to get a stay order from Hyderabad High Court till 15th of April.
The petition filed by Hyderabad Cable Operators Association demanded an extension given to all metropolitan cities for the same difficulty of acute shortage of Set Top Boxes.
Hari Gowd, an association member, said, “We welcome digitization but wondered why the government is being partial towards the cities falling under Phase 2. We do not have enough number of STB’s to seed the entire market”.
He alleged that the present STB available in market is made in China and questioned why the Indian government is not giving enough time and encouraging domestic companies to produce and sell the STB, thus saving a lot of money from going out of country and also benefiting the poor man who finds it difficult to afford the present STB available for Rs.1200/- plus.”
He also said, “Gujarati Galli in Hyderabad has become a sale point of STB’s by some MSO’s. On the other hand the cable operators are sitting with zero percent stock.”
The future off cable operators is uncertain due to complex revenue model currently followed by MSO’s and requested TRAI to look in to it and bring out a better revenue sharing model between the MSO’s and LCO’s, he added.
