DAVP ropes in Giridhari Mohanty as Director General

The Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP), the nodal agency for multi-media advertising and publicity for various Ministries and Departments of the Government of India, has appointed Giridhari Mohanty, IIS, as its new Director General on the advise of Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Manish Tiwari.
Mohanty assumed his new office after the order was passed last weekend.

Prior to this appointment, Mohanty was Director General (News) in All India Radio since July 2010. He replaces Frank Noronha, who was appointed Director General of DAVP in 2009.
With a little more than a year left for the 2014 General Elections, this appointment is said to be part of the UPA government’s preparations for polls. DAVP manages government ads worth more than Rs 750 crore annually. Some of the autonomous bodies also route their advertisements through DAVP.
