Singapore-based HOOQ, a joint venture (JV) between Singtel, Sony Pictures Television and Warner Bros, is starting its video service in India with a monthly subscription fee of Rs 199 by June 2015.
Subscribers can either stream or download from a catalogue of over 5,000 Hollywood movies, TV series and shows from Sony Pictures, Warner Bros, Disney, Dreamworks and Miramax. The content includes movies like ‘Harry Potter’, ‘Spider-Man’, ‘Iron Man’, ‘Pulp Fiction’ and TV series like ‘Nikita’, ‘The Shield’, ‘Friends’, ‘Lost’ and ‘Grey’s Anatomy’.
In addition, HOOQ will also offer a range of over 10,000 Indian film and TV favourites. It is in connection with Hollywood studios to add more content.
HOOQ CEO Peter Bithos said, “HOOQ offers features to ensure an uninterrupted viewing experience, including a custom setting for quality preference, a bandwidth indicator to assess internet connectivity, and adaptive streaming to maximise available bandwidth.”
The service will also be accessible to all customers in India through its website hooq.tv. Customers can watch videos of their choice and pay for the subscription Customers can watch HOOQ content via any device including computers, smartphones, tablets and Android set-top boxes. Users can download videos for offline viewing.
