Two television channels namely ABC News and Voice of Nation have surrendered their TV channel licences to the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB), a source said.
ABC News, a Telugu news channel was owned by Vijayawada-based Akhil Broadcasting, received news uplinking licence on 3 October 2011 whereas Voice of Nation, a Dehradun-based Hindi news channel owned by Northern India Holdings, received news uplinking licence on 13 September 2010.
With this, the number of TV channels in the country has decreased to 830 from 832. Out of 832, 406 were news and current affairs TV channels while 426 were non-news and current affairs channels but now the number of News channel will drop to 404.
