Five weeks after the official merger of the former Motorola Home business with that of Arris and the two companies are very firmly one.
In a Broadband TV News interview Bruce McClelland, President, Network and Clud, Global Services, Arris said the initial purchase by Google had not helped the business. “Right from Day 1 their strategy was to sell that portion of the business and that halted the momentum.”
Wary of what might happen if Google – seen by many as a competitor – continued with the business, Arris was encouraged by its customers to make a move. Five weeks after the deal was formally sealed and ANGA COM became the first appearance at a major trade fair by the new Arris. McClelland says a single sales structure was in place from day one and continuity was assured.
Steve McCaffery, SVP EMEA, says Europe was probably one of the easier places to integrate with very little overlap between the two skill sets.
One surprise is the plan to enter the digital terrestrial market in Africa with a DVB-T2 box. McCaffery says the proportion of the subsidized market in the region is “significant”.
