As per the Cable Television Network Amendment Ordinance 2011, television broadcasters were to switch off analogue signals from Sunday, March 31 in the 38 cities notified in the Phase-II of digitization roll-out but Jaipur is yet to be digitized.
As cable operators struggling to get adequate supply of STBs which are mostly imported, direct-to home (DTH) players have stepped up efforts and have gained new customers and it will also take a week for complete digitization.
On March 26, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had said that 75% digitization had been achieved in Jodhpur and Jaipur, the two cities in the state included under the second phase. With leading cable operators in the city finding it hard to get new supply, the remaining 15% of the customers are depending on DTH operators like Airtel Digital TV, Dish TV and Tata Sky. Anticipating peak demand during the weeks leading to deadline, these operators have mobilized additional logistics including manpower and STBs. But the number of customers has turned out to be bigger than the resources arranged.
Cable operators in city like Digicable, Hathway, DEN Network and Siticable are facing a hard time securing additional STBs.
