A division bench of the Madras High Court on 29 September dismissed the Union Government’s petitions against Sun Group companies’ participation in the phase III FM auctions.
A Division Bench of Justices Satish K. Agnihotri and K.K. Sasidharan passed the orders on a batch of appeals moved by the Central government challenging a Single Judge’s interim order allowing the Sun Group owned by Maran brothers to participate in the FM auction.
According to counsel for the Sun Group J Ravindran, the Union Government had appealed against the order. But the Division Bench upheld the Single Judge order that the group companies cannot be denied permission to participate in the FM auction on the grounds that criminal cases were pending against its promoter Kalanithi Maran. In a separate order, the Division Bench also dismissed the Union Government’s appeal relating to Kal Cables’ security clearance.
