Consumer in Tamil Nadu not ready to pay more than Rs 70 for Cable

Alleging that the excess levy of charges from cable television consumers has become rampant in the district, the Lok Satta Party members staged a protest in front of the Gandhi statue near Corporation office here on 12 November.
Lok Satta Party state organising secretary S. Eswaran said that most of the operators are charging subscription fees in the range of Rs. 100 to Rs. 150 a month, against the charge of Rs. 70 fixed by the State Government. “It means, Rs. 154 crore is made from the ‘excess levy’ alone in Tirupur for a year considering that around 11 lakh cable television connections are there in the district,’ Mr. Eswaran said. Another allegation levelled by the members was that the cable television operators show a much lesser number of consumers than the actual size.
