With Subroto Roy-promoted Sahara India Pariwar opting out as Team India’s shirt sponsor, the Indian cricket board today published tender for team sponsorship rights covering all international matches involving the national men’s and women’s cricket team.
The team sponsorship rights will cover Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), International Cricket Council (ICC) and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) events for the period from 1 January 2014 to 31 March 2017.
Rights include the right to be called the “Official Team Sponsor,” and to display a commercial logo on the team clothing of the Sr. Men’s Cricket Team, the U-19 Men’s Cricket Team, the Men’s A-Team and the Women’s Team.
The ITT will be available for purchase from 11 November to 7 December on payment of Rs. 200,000 while the winning bid will be announced on 9 December.
While the base price for the tender has not been revealed, Sahara India Pariwar was forking out Rs. 3.34 crore (Rs 33.4 million) per match as the official team sponsor. The sponsorship deal is effective till 31 December 2013.
The tender for official team sponsorship was necessitated following Sahara’s decision not to renew the sponsorship deal. The reason for not renewing the deal comes amidst deteriorating relationship between Sahara and BCCI.
